Versagen (statische Beanspruchung)

Failure (static stress)

Static stress failure is deformation up to the point a component ruptures or loses its stability. The loss of stability of a component subjected to compressive stress is indicated, for example, by buckling or the formation of dents.

If a load acts on a component, this initially results in elastic deformation. Exceeding the yield point results in plastic flow and thus Plastic deformation of the component. If a component's deformation increases under a constant load, the Material creeps.

The extent of plastic deformation depends on the material properties. Brittle materials break after minimal plastic deformation in the form of a brittle fracture (also called a separation fracture). Ductile materials, on the other hand, are deformed to a greater extent before they fail in the form of a forced fracture.

A rupture resulting from a static load is called a forced fracture, while one resulting from a dynamic load is called a fatigue fracture.

Dynamic failure occurs before reaching the threshold stress for failure resulting from a static load.
