Wrought alloy

Wrought alloys are non-ferrous metal alloys with a composition that makes them extremely ductile. Unlike cast alloys, they are therefore particularly suitable for hot and cold Forming processes such as drawing, Rolling and pressing.

To produce wrought alloys, the non-ferrous Metals first undergo continuous or discontinuous Casting to create rolling slabs, billets or round blanks. Grain refiners are often added. Further hot or cold processing then takes place in rolling mills and/or pressing plants to recrystallise and achieve a fine-grained Microstructure.

There are eight different groups of wrought Aluminium alloys based on the main alloying elements (e.g. copper, manganese, magnesium, silicon, zinc).

Brasses are primarily used for Copper wrought alloys, but copper-Nickel alloys are also common. Both leaded (free-Cutting) and lead-free brass alloys are available. They support a wide range of applications, including drop Forging, wire manufacture and coin production.
