Lagersystem

Storage system

The storage system is chosen based on the task of a Warehouse. There are stock, buffer, collecting and distribution warehouses as well as raw material, seasonal, production, spare parts and Logistics warehouses. Regardless of these tasks, every storage system must fulfil the basic storage requirements that represent the targeted flow of goods within the warehouse.

In a storage system, the goods are identified on receipt and checked for good condition and completeness (warehouse management system) before they are put into storage based on the desired strategy or prepared for immediate removal (cross-docking). Depending on the type of storage and goods, the process of putting goods into storage can be manual, semi-automatic (e.g. with shuttles or forklifts) or fully automatic using conveying systems. The same applies for Stock retrieval. In the goods issue area, goods are picked and, if necessary, stored on a temporary basis. Shipping documents are enclosed in the dispatch area and the goods are then loaded.

Storage systems should be designed to achieve fast access times, short transport routes, fast transport times and high handling throughput and to enable the efficient use of resources.
