Verwendet werden Aluminiumoxid (WCA, Kompaktkorn), Siliziumkarbid (SICD, rollendes Korn) sowie Diamantkorn.

Sogenannte mikro-elektro-mechanische Systeme (MEMS) bestehen aus Silizium und erlangen eine immer größere Bedeutung.

Wenn eine höhere Genauigkeit gefragt ist, empfiehlt sich der Einsatz von Keramik oder Silizium, da diese Werkstoffe einen wesentlich höheren Temperaturkoeffizienten haben.
