Elastic element

Elastic elements are also called springs. They exhibit a specific deformation when subjected to a load and, when the load is removed, return to their original shape by means of elastic recovery. Springs can absorb, store and, if required, re-release Work energy over a relatively large path.

Springs can be used for a whole host of applications, for example:

  • Fastening elements for elastic (flexible) connections (clutches, brakes)
  • Impact Damping and absorption (shock absorbers, buffer springs)
  • Storing potential energy (spring motors, watches)
  • Vibration technology (vibrators, conveyors)
  • Force measurement and limitation (spring balance)

Distinctions are made between springs based on their shape (e.g. helical spring, leaf spring), the way they work (e.g. pneumatically, mechanically) and the type of load that causes them to deform (traction, Torsion). Spring characteristic curves illustrate how springs behave by plotting the spring force against the (elastic) deformation.

Elastisches Element

  • Verbindungselemente für elastische Verbindungen (bei Kupplungen, Bremsen)
  • Dämpfung und Aufnahme von Stößen (Stoßdämpfer, Pufferfedern)
  • Speicherung potenzieller Energie (Federmotor, Uhr)
