Polyamide

The term polyamide (PA) refers to various thermoplastic polymers that exhibit regular amide linkages along the Chain molecule structure. Because they are very tough and strong, they are often used as construction materials. Nylon, polycaprolactam and Dederon fibres are also classed as polyamides.

Partially crystalline polymers are the most important for technical applications because they are tough, extremely strong and exhibit good rigidity, stiffness and impact Resistance. Polyamides can be coloured, are resistant to chemicals and are easy to process, but absorb and release water and moisture easily.

Besides their main application as synthetic fibres, polyamides are suitable for many other uses, primarily where resistance to abrasion, breakage and chemicals is required.

Polyamides are therefore frequently used as materials for:

  • Dowels, screws, self-adhesive Cable clips
  • Plain bearings, sprockets, bearings, rollers
  • Covers, cable ties
  • Surgical suture thread
  • Due to their heat resistance and lack of sensitivity to lubricants and fuels, they are also used for fuel lines, covers, oil pans and intake systems on engines
