Actual dimension

An actual dimension is a Concrete value that has been obtained through measurement and describes a length, weight, temperature or similar. In Design engineering, an actual dimension is the dimension as measured on the finished workpiece.

When determining an actual dimension, it is important to take into account errors in the measurement process being used and tolerances on the measurement devices. An actual dimension can also be influenced by external factors such as temperature.

In design engineering, actual dimensions can be compared against the limit sizes specified by the design engineer, whereby the actual dimensions must fall within the set limit sizes and can deviate from the nominal values only within the parameters of certain tolerances.
