Casting alloy

Casting alloys are metallic materials comprising at least two alloying partners that must be suitable for casting.

Most casting alloys are hard and brittle. Unlike wrought alloys, they have a primarily heterogeneous Microstructure that is created during crystallisation at the eutectic point or during post-eutectic crystallisation.

The microstructure's mechanical properties are already determined during the casting process, because solidification conditions such as wall thicknesses and temperatures influence the crystallisation process. During the manufacture of Rotation-symmetrical components such as drum casings, sprockets and screw bodies, centrifugal casting is often used to make the semi-finished products.

Casting methods such as vacuum casting, low-pressure Die casting, squeeze casting and thixocasting in a semi-solid liquid state improve the Toughness and weldability of most castings, while also reducing their porosity.
