Copper alloys

The main purpose of alloying Copper with other Metals is to modify its properties and adapt it for the relevant use. Copper alloys in widespread use include wrought and cast alloys such as:

  • Copper-zinc alloys (brass) for drawing, upset Forging and rolling
  • Copper-zinc alloys (high-Strength brass) with added aluminium, tin, nickel, manganese or Iron feature different types of Microstructure, higher strength and good anti-Friction and Wear properties
  • Copper-tin alloys are easy to solder and exhibit good corrosion Resistance. Their high elasticity and resistance makes them ideal for springs and their good Conductivity means they are also used for electrical contacts.
  • Copper-Aluminium alloys exhibit good resistance to saline solutions and certain alkaline solutions. Adding iron can make them stronger. The alloying element Nickel improves the fatigue limit and Corrosion resistance. Manganese leads to better high-temperature stability and ensures the molten metal is deoxidised.
  • In copper-nickel alloys, the copper results in excellent formability during stretching and the nickel provides good strength and corrosion resistance.
