Endurance test

Endurance tests are long-term tests during which materials and components are subjected to mechanical, mechanothermal and/or mechanochemical stresses over a lengthy period. They are used to determine the behaviour of a Material or component under long-term static or dynamic stresses and are always necessary in the case of time-variant damage mechanisms.

Examples of endurance tests include the following:

  • Creep rupture test based on a static tensile stress and high temperatures to determine creep and deformation, time yield limit and creep rupture Strength
  • Stress-Relaxation test (relaxation test), which involves constant deformation of a component or a sample that is fixed in a mechanically locked connection in order to determine creep and a time-dependent Reduction in stress. The relaxation strength can be measured after applying the stress.
  • Vibration test (Fatigue test), in which smooth or notched samples/components are subjected to pulsating or alternating tensile, Bending or torsional stresses and/or high-frequency stresses.
  • Low cycle fatigue test to illustrate the effects of changes in load and temperature. Tests with holding times are also possible if temperature profiles need to be depicted (thermomechanical test)
