Health protection

Health protection in the workplace aims to prevent Work-related health complaints and occupational diseases. Occupational health protection is a preventive concept that is implemented by means of measures such as occupational medical care provision.

Occupational health and safety legislation requires companies to put in place measures aimed at protecting the health and ensuring the safety of personnel in the workplace.

Protective measures are categorised into those designed to prevent certain conditions (condition-oriented prevention) and those designed to prevent certain conduct or behaviour (behaviour-oriented prevention). The most important category is the prevention of specific conditions, whereby risks are minimised at source and in the form of working conditions. This type of prevention includes:

  • Designing workstations and processes to take into account health considerations and Ergonomics
  • Avoiding the Workload factors caused by noise, hazardous substances and physical and psychological impacts

The second, less important category - preventing certain types of conduct or behaviour - focuses on specific preventive measures. These include:

  • Notifying employees of health risks
  • Training healthy conduct (minimising back strain, coping with stress)
  • Educating and advising employees on pertinent issues (through the company medical officer)
