Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are diodes that emit light in conducting mode. Depending on the LED's properties, this light may be in the visible or invisible range.
For many years, LEDs were mainly used in the field of signal diodes, because technical factors limited the luminous efficiency and the number of colours.
In recent years, however, efficiencies have improved significantly and it is now possible to make LEDs with additional colours. LEDs have now become established in numerous applications. They are used as headlights for e.g. cars, as spotlights for general Lighting and also to light objects, homes, business premises, etc.
