When the excitation field and load torque are constant, the armature current decreases when the armature voltage is reduced.

The stator in these machines is equipped with an AC winding that generates an alternating magnetic field using an armature that usually has a squirrel cage design.

In theory, the stator windings can be replaced with two counter-rotating DC windings, while the function of the armature corresponds to two counter-rotating rotors.
